Porcelain Crowns

For large cavities or structural breaks that have compromised a tooth’s function and integrity, a crown or “cap” is often the treatment of choice. Porcelain crowns can deliver the strength, stability, and cosmetic appearance you need for a beautiful and seamless smile.

Porcelain crowns are sometimes recommended for:

-Teeth with large fillings that are structurally damaged

-Teeth that have been physically injured

-Particularly weak or damaged teeth

-Bridges that require attachments

-The protection of a tooth after a root canal or other endodontic treatment

-The protection of a dental implant

-Severely discolored or misshapen teeth

Porcelain is the material Dr. Jamie Sands chooses because of its many unique qualities. The high-quality porcelain we use is completely translucent and it mimics the qualities of enamel for a very natural look.

At Dr. Jamie Sands’ office, we prefer to use a type of crown called the “Lava crown.” The Lava crown is designed using fine aesthetic principles. With this crown, you don’t have to sacrifice beauty for strength. The translucent components — including the milled ceramic inside and baked-on outer layer — are durable and shaded to match your natural tooth color.

Not all cosmetic dentists offer this crown option. The placement of porcelain Lava crowns requires careful skill and refined technique. Dr. Jamie Sands has helped countless California residents improve the health and appearance of their teeth with porcelain Lava crowns.
