For a long time the majority of dental fillings were composed of mercury and silver. Mercury in particular has been under much scrutiny for safety reasons. In addition to this, metal filings can cause teeth to crack when the material corrodes. Fortunately, advances in dentistry have allowed us to provide our patients with safe, natural-looking options. Through the use of special adhesives, we can make restorations that look and act like teeth.

Replacing metal fillings is easy. We use a rubber dam to isolate the tooth and to protect patients against mercury’s harmful effects. Once the metal is removed and the area is sterilized, we fit the porcelain or white filling, a process that usually takes one to two additional visits.
